Being born on 1 st June 1968, It was a natural decision to have my 40th birthday party at Bristol Miniday 2008 where all my friends could share it.

We arrived early, excited and anxious to see the new venue, set up and blow up my balloons. Puxton Park was a very nice place with its own farm shop, animals and kids playground, the perfect place for a party.

8am, everyone began to arrive, all the clubs were there and loads of traders.

By 9.30am, things were hotting up and getting busy, the show and shine arena was pretty full and I started handing out Birthday cake, the atmosphere was great and there were lots of themed club stands and dressed up people everywhere.

The club competitions started around 10am and had everyone in fits of laughter as people dressed as Aunt Sally and Wurzel tried to ‘wet the welly’ in a swamp, hula hoop, and balance on planks and crates etc.

We had a look around the show cars and bought some new parts from the trade arena whilst handing out Birthday cake and balloons to all my friends.

Groups of kids and clubs were running around to compete in the treasure hunt whilst others concentrated on the colouring competitions. Throughout the day there were numerous silly competitions such as ‘bring me a sock’, ‘buttercup bingo’ and ‘ farm animal impressions’ on the PA with some great prizes and some great cars in the ‘For Sale’ area.

With mirrors shining, horns blowing and the distinctive smell of 2 stroke oil, The Mod scooters arrived en mass in a 60’s style to provide an impressive display.

A pinstriping demonstration took place at midday, with a young striper showing off striping on some guitars whilst explaining this black art to the huge crowd that had gathered, this was an unusual but interesting addition to the show.

I was called on the tannoy and very surprised to be given a lovely birthday present by the organisers which I shall treasure to keep me clean.

‘Mighty Mini in the Mud’ followed as a huge 4x4 mini drove through the swamp, showing what could be done and posing for pic’s.

Club competitions were hotting up with everyone forming human knots with rope and then wearing sheep blindfolds before being herded across the show into a pen, this had everyone watching as stray sheep wandered aimlessly into the trade arena followed by shouting, frustrated herdsmen. This concluded the club competitions and lots of fun was had by all.

A presentation followed with South Devon winning closely followed by Somerset who also won the best club stand competition.

After several more quick and silly PA competitions, we eagerly headed over to watch the show and shine results, and to my surprise, I won a trophy and a prize !.

This completed a 40 th birthday to be remembered, I had a wonderful time, a fantastic party and I think everyone else did too, can’t wait for Bristol Miniday 2009 !!
