Miniday 2005 : HAIL! BRISTOL MINIDAY :
Alien Invasion or The Day of the Swamp Thing?

Well, we knew it would happen one day and this was it! Not just 15.8mm rain, but hailstones too. We tried a suggestion from Pembrokeshire MOC to spray the clouds with cement – it did give us two hours of acceptable weather in the morning, but that was it. Back to the drawing board!

Mini folk aren’t softies though (certainly the campers were die hards) and a large gathering assembled to celebrate the annual Bristol Bash. The clubs had all worked hard on the show’s theme “Alien Invasion” and the outfits and club stands were exceptional. Loads of fun was had by everyone, although it was cut a little short by the afternoon storms. The space hopper race created most interest, with a large crowd cheering on their favourites and the blind fold “Driving Skills” - on foot and minus a car - amused everyone! In the end, after quizzing, hunting and displaying, the new champions for 2005 emerged as The MOB (Minis of Bridgwater) - but only just – with only four points between the first four teams out of the eleven battalions of Mini Warriors. The Best Club Stand had to go to Funkey Monkey MOC with a Dr Who set the BBC would have been proud of.

next show: SUNDAY 4TH JUNE 2006

The Show and Shine was well subscribed with lots of pristine concours cars. Well done to everyone and especially Six-Ex for organising, judging and administering it so well under extremely difficult conditions.

With a good turnout of trade stands, we want to say thank you to everyone who braved the weather and for their encouragement and to our sponsors Dick Lovett for their continued support.

Lastly, a big mention must go to the Classic Car Owners who came along with a wide variety of marques to make a special display and add a little something extra to an ever popular day out.

Thanks to you all.
